Position: Biologist II

This position requires a dedicated individual taking direction from the Supervisor and Animal Curator with the primary responsibility is to feed, clean, and maintain assigned collection of animals; animal exhibits, yards, night enclosures, and contiguous areas; perform light exhibit construction; maintain integrity of existing landscape. This position will participate in animal development and training for use in Guest education and immersive experiences with a focus on Guest and enclosure excellence. Additionally, Team Member will be responsible for educating the public through keeper talks and other impromptu educational sessions. Biologist II will generally handle Green Circle, Blue Square, and Red Triangle classified animals (low to moderate to high risk) but may be trained on higher risk animals but only by an authorized trainer or supervisor.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain daily husbandry of animals in assigned areas.
- Monitor/Observe assigned animals closely with regard to general appearance, diet consumption levels, condition of fecal matter, etc.
- Maintain feed intake records as outlined by SOP’s.
- Record daily observations pertaining to the health and behavior of animals on a Daily Report.
- Clean animal exhibits, yards, pools, night enclosures, and service areas.
- A valid driver’s license and background check returns clear.
- Participate in handling and restraint procedures.
- Assists in the treatment of collection of animals.
- Perform minor or routine maintenance of enclosures and report all other maintenance needs to curators.
- Be trained on and operate a variety of light and medium equipment.
- Participate in media, public relations, and daily keeper talks designed to educate the Guests on a variety of animals throughout the park.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- A minimum of two to four years of college experience and/or two to four or more years of exotic animal experience with Zoo or related facility and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience in facility maintenance and Bachelors degree in Biology or like field is desired but not required.
